Frequently Asked Questions
1) Question: How do I navigate and search for video clips in e-Klips?
Answer: The easiest way to search for specific video clips is to use the search engine located at the top of the Home page (under the tabs labeled Home, Videos, Channels, Groups and Friends). It allows searches through the use of a keyword, phrase or SOL. Next, you can direct your search to a specific area: videos, users or groups. After filling in those fields, simply click the search button.
On the Home page under the search engine are displayed Recently Viewed Video Clips that users have accessed. The length of time since it was previously viewed is featured underneath.
Below Recently Viewed Video Clips, Today's Featured Videos are shown including their complete description and metadata.
2) Question: What is the apple logo found in the upper left-hand corner of the clips?
Answer: This is a special feature of the e-Klips and is found on each and every video clip. By clicking on the apple logo, a user will be hyperlinked to the Educational Services home page which is hosted by the Educational Services Department of the Community Idea Stations (WCVE/WCVW/WHTJ). Additional resources, links and information can be viewed and accessed from there.
3) Question: How do I search for a specific Virginia Standard of Learning (SOL)?
Answer: See the first question listed above. To access a complete list of the Virginia Department of Education's Standards of Learning, go to the VDOE website.
4) Question: What will I need on my computer to view e-Klips video clips?
Answer: The Adobe Flash Player is the application needed to view video clips and can be downloaded for free at Adobe's website.
5) Question: Why do I have to be 18 years old to use e-Klips?
Answer: e-Klips makes internet safety a high priority as it pertains to children in compliance with Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) of 1998.
6) Question: How do I view a video clip full screen?
Answer: Before the clip starts to play, click on the expansion button on the bottom of the screen. It's the last graphic on the right. If you click on this while the video clip is playing, it will start over from the beginning.
7) Question: Can I embed a video clip?
Answer: Yes, simply copy the Video URL (found below the description on each video clip page) and paste it into your document. This links the clip with the host site (must have Internet access). Once you click on it, your video clip will play.
8) Question: Can I download a video clip?
Answer: Because of copyright issues, this is not a function offered at this time.
9) Question: Can I save video clips in a playlist?
Answer: Every video you watch while logged into e-Klips will be saved to a playlist. This allows you to narrow your search if you need to recall a video you have recently viewed. In addition, you can save clips by copying the Video URL and pasting it into a word processing.
10) Question: Why should I have an account? What advantages are there to having an account?
Answer: There are many advantages to having your own account. You will be able to:
- Keep a list of personally viewed clips
- Create your own Group
- Rate and comment on videos
- Share videos with friends and colleagues
11) Question: How do I set up an account?
Answer: Setting up an account is very easy to do: simply click on the Sign Up link at the top of the home page. You will be prompted to enter your email address, user name, password and verification (the letters and numbers in the gray box above the verification form field). If you agree to the Terms of Use and are at least 18 years of age, then click the Sign Up button below the form fields.
12) Question: How do I share video clips with friends?
Answer: In order to share videos, you must be a registered e-Klips user. One way to share video clips is to simply click on the tab labeled Friends. Then you will be able to click the option - Share your videos with friends. The screen shown above will pop up allowing you to simply fill in the form fields with your name, your friends' email addresses and your message. In the message field you can paste the Video URL of your favorite video. Click the button on the bottom Send Invite which will send your message(s) on its way.
13) Question: What is considered inappropriate content (either video clips or comments)?

14) Question: What are "tags" and why are some in a larger font size?
Answer: Tags are key words used to describe the content found in the video clips. The larger sized tags are the most popularly-used. When you click on these words you will be linked to other videos that use the same descriptive tag. It's a useful tool when you are searching for specific content.
15) Question: Does e-Klips have RSS features?
Answer: Yes, it does. You will see an orange square at the bottom of every page. Click on it for more information on how to subscribe or click HERE to go directly to the RSS page.
16) Question: How do I use Channels?
Answer: Channels (tab found at top of every page on e-Klips) are another way to categorize video clips according to curriculum (i.e., History/Social Science K-12, English K-12) or producer. This is a great tool to use when searching for specific video clips. A user can access material either by clicking on the icon or the subject link. After clicking you will find clips categorized even further according to the following:
- Most Active Users
- Top Watched Videos
- Recently Added
- Recent Tags
17) Question: How do I use Groups?
Answer: Groups (tab found at the top of every page on e-Klips) is a feature whereby users who are e-Klips members can form a community to share video clips and comments with each other. A member may create a group simply by clicking on the button. You are then the founder of that group and will then be prompted to provide a group name, tags, description, group URL link and other pertinent information. You even have the option of making this public (anyone can join), protected (requires founder approval) or private (by founder invite only). You can post topics to discuss with each other, rate videos and share ideas.
18) Question: I forgot my user name and / or password. How do I access this information?
Answer: To retrieve either user name or password, simply click on the link just below the sign-in area that says Forgot your password. You will be prompted to provide your email address so that it can be sent to you. To go directly to the password retrieval page, CLICK HERE.
19) Question: If I have a question about e-Klips that is not covered here, who do I contact?
